About the Position

The COTA will provide occupational therapy services to students under the direction and supervision of a licensed occupational therapist. The position will support students in developing and strengthening the skills necessary to participate successfully in the school environment.

Responsibilities may include:

• Implementing occupational therapy interventions and activities consistent with student IEPs and established treatment plans
• Supporting students with fine-motor, visual-motor, sensory-motor, self-care, and other functional school-related skills
• Working with students individually and in small groups
• Collaborating with classroom teachers and special education staff to support student success
• Helping teachers incorporate occupational therapy strategies into daily classroom activities
• Adapting materials, activities, and learning environments to meet individual student needs
• Collecting student data and maintaining appropriate service documentation
• Participating in IEP meetings and student support team meetings as appropriate
• Communicating effectively with occupational therapists, teachers, families, and other members of the student support team
• Maintaining professional knowledge and skills through appropriate professional development

Qualifications

Applicants must:

• Hold current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) through NBCOT, as applicable
• Meet Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction requirements for employment as a COTA in a school setting
• Maintain all required Wisconsin licensure/certification
• Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, therapists, and other school personnel

Experience working with children in a school or pediatric setting is preferred but not required.
