Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary and Qualifications 

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant functions as a member of the healthcare team. The purpose is to provide medically prescribed occupational therapy programs in the Occupational Therapy Department in accordance with national standards and administrative policies of the hospital, under the supervision and direction of an Occupational Therapist. The goal is to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, surgery, or loss of a body part in order to allow the patient to perform to his/her maximum ability. The COTA cares for ages 18-39 Yrs Young Adult, 40-64 Yrs Adult, and 65+ Geriatric patients. May be required to do weekday and weekend coverage, including holidays. 

What you will do in this role:

  • Assist in providing medically prescribed occupational therapy in the hospital setting 
  • Ensures services are provided in accordance with National standards and hospital policy 
  • Provides timely documentation in order to facilitate in patient discharge 
  • Ensures proper maintenance of the Rehabilitation Services equipment 
  • Other duties as assigned 
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of AIDET, utilizing with each patient interaction 
  • Regular, reliable attendance is required to ensure the highest level of patient care 
  • Follows hospital safety and quality standards and expectations, as it pertains to job performance and patient care 

What qualifications you will need: 

  • Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy 
  • Current Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant license  
  • BLS required prior to hands-on patient care 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Possess the ability to work effectively in a team. 
  • Must have working knowledge of computer systems 
  • Effective decision-making skills with minimal supervision 
  • Ability to perform in a high-stress environment
