Job Summary:

Works independently and collaboratively with unit managers/team leaders to coordinate the orientation process annual competencies and provide on-the-unit education of new equipment, products, policies and procedures. In conjunction with clinic team leaders/coordinators develops and provides unit-based educational programs. Perform clinical functions of ophthalmology technician.

Job Duties:

  • Establish consistency among all ophthalmology outpatient clinics in regards to daily operational issues that relate to policies and regulations, particularly the Department of Health and The Joint Commission.
  • Coordinates the orientation process through an active involvement with ophthalmic orienteers and preceptors throughout the service line.
  • Provides ongoing education based on individual unit needs, staff requests, and physician request.
  • Assists staff with on-unit education of new equipment, products, policies, procedures and handling clinical emergencies.
  • Facilitates support and provides required education by identifying and communicating relevant in-services.
  • Fosters growth of individual staff members through mentoring and support of Career Enhancement Program.
  • Establishes educational opportunities for all staff through poster presentation, workshops, computer based programs, articles and videos.
  • Provides leadership in management meetings and other committees as assigned.
  • Collaborates with clinical unit management team to foster unit growth, identify educational needs and develop plans related to clinical practice.
  • Acts as a resource to the clinical team leader and team coordinators with annual unit based skills assessment and competencies.
  • Assures age specific programs meet the needs of Clinics.
  • Performs all the duties of an ophthalmic assistant.
  • Liaison of Ophthalmology tech co-op program.

  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) through the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)

  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience
