JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting and supporting licensed pharmacists in providing health care and medications to patients. This responsibility includes activities inclusive of, but not limited to acting as a liaison between the public and the pharmacist, preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory and maintaining patient records. Orders, receives and stocks the pharmacy medications in a timely and accurate manner. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures; regulatory / accrediting body requirements; and professional practice standards. Performs all tasks under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Comply with all state, local and federal regulations relating to drug dispensing, including appropriate handling of drug products, adherence to security procedures and completion of necessary documentation. This includes appropriate control and dispensing of controlled dangerous substances. Expedite the processing of prescriptions by performing all duties necessary and allowable by policy or law. Act as a liaison between the public and the pharmacist(s). Communicate with third party providers to determine eligibility, obtain prior authorization or assist with rejected claims. Answer the telephone and requests at the counter or window. Assist with purchasing activities and maintenance of adequate inventory level. Assists in the orientation of new personnel and students Maintain the prescription area in an orderly and sanitary manner. Inspect medication areas for outdated or recalled medications, proper storage of medications, proper medication administration records and availability of reference materials. Adhere to departmental policies and procedures. Comply with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire and infection control. Provide courteous, cooperative and timely service to patients, visitors and staff. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, visitor and employee information. Comply with the HIPAA Privacy Rule standards. Assist with maintaining patient medication profiles and records. Maintain safety-integrity-professionalism of pharmacy at all times. Assist in the resolution of issues or concerns while being a supportive team member. Assist with restocking inventory and supplies Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload. Supports the mission, values and vision of the organization

Requirements Include

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

High school degree or equivalent, 18 years or older Registration with Ohio State board of pharmacy within 30 days of employment PTCB or ExCPT National Certification Maintain Continuing education (CE) according to state requirements. Retail pharmacy technician related experience, preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Basic computer skills including two hand typing Organize and prioritize work to ensure pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner. Use of multiple computer programs and email daily Multitasking and time management skills Demonstration of effective problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal and team work skills. Operate the point of sale system, including credit card, personal check, cash payments or A/R accounts Demonstration of positive customer service Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload. Demonstrated ability to concentrate and remain focused despite multiple interruptions Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions and decimals.
