Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Join our Venice Family Clinic team and use your expertise to make a difference in the community as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT-1). Under the guidance and supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the CPT will assist in the day-to-day operations and:

  • Perform phlebotomy on patients in an outpatient setting.
  • Ensure lab orders are accurately entered into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Ensure that urgent lab specimens are processed in a timely way after verification of appropriate information.
  • Centrifuge, measure and aliquot and/or preserve.
  • Enter and verify patient and test information, and generate computer labels for specimens.
  • Prepare samples for transport to referral labs or storage.
  • Prepare written reports to document phlebotomy draws, test results, test added, or deleted/rejected specimens.
  • Perform inventory count, ensure appropriate level of supplies, and appropriately dispose of all expired supplies.
  • Ensure health coverage information is correctly selected in EHR.
  • Assist in monitoring workflow.
  • Keep the work area neat, clean, and organized.
  • Submit billing information to external labs.
  • Travel to other Venice Family Clinic Locations within LA County as needed for coverage.

Salary Range: $26.90 - $33.45 hourly

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Phlebotomy certification from the State of California.
  • Demonstrated phlebotomy experience with adults and children in a doctor's office or medical clinic setting.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with patients from diverse educational, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures, medical terminology, and Clinical Lab test names.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced setting with accurately and attention to details.
  • Skill in using computers and printers.
  • Skill in reading and writing English to understand technical protocols/procedures and to write accurate patient data information.

Preferred: bilingual verbal language skills in Spanish and English, and skill in performing quality control.
