Role Description
\n
The Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police Department is seeking aCertified Police Officer at the Marquette Detachment in Harvey, Michigan. This position is responsible for protecting the community, enforcing applicable tribal, state, and federal laws, maintaining public safety, and providing professional law enforcement services through proactive patrol and community policing.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct preventative patrol and perform peacekeeping functions throughout the reservation.
- \n
- Enforce applicable tribal, state, and federal laws within the officer’s jurisdiction.
- \n
- Participate in community policing initiatives and maintain positive relationships with community members.
- \n
- Respond to calls for service, investigate incidents, and take appropriate action to resolve violations.
- \n
- Serve warrants, subpoenas, and other court documents as directed.
- \n
- Enforce traffic laws and investigate traffic accidents.
- \n
- Make arrests when legally authorized and necessary.
- \n
- Investigate incidents including minor-in-possession violations, disorderly conduct, prowling, unsecured buildings, and other offenses encountered during patrol.

- Prepare accurate, thorough, and timely incident, investigative, and case reports.
- \n
- Appear and provide testimony in Tribal, State, and Federal Courts as required.
- \n
- Transport and maintain custody of prisoners in accordance with applicable laws and department procedures.
- \n
- Act as Court Bailiff and provide security for Tribal Court when requested.
- \n
- Enforce Tribal fish and game laws when required.
- \n
- Cooperate and maintain professional working relationships with other law enforcement agencies, health authorities, school officials, and community partners.

- Prepare daily activity reports and required monthly reports and submit completed documentation to the Police Chief.
- \n
- Follow all orders and directives of the Tribal Court and Police Department supervisors.
- \n
- Comply with the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and all department policies and procedures outlined in the Operations Manual.
- \n
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications
\n
- \n
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associate degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
- \n
- Current Certification through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) is required. Will be required to obtain Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) certification within one (1) year from date of hire.
- \n
- The successful candidate will be required to reside within Marquette County and no more than 25 miles of Detachment.
- \n
- Willing and able to be on call 24/7. Will be required to carry a cellular phone.
- \n
- Required computer skills: Excel; Internet; Corel WordPerfect or MS Word.
- \n
- Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory results of an extensive criminal background check, medical and psychological examination, and drug testing.
