Job Summary and Qualifications

• **1. Utilizes principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field.

• *2. Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
• *3. Demonstrates competency in assisting surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care.
• *4. Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room.
• *5. Participates in on-call assignments and demonstrates flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
• *6. Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
• *7. Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during their preoperative experience.
• *8. Serves as a resource person for other staff members.
• 9. Serves as a professional member of the OR team.
• 10. Pursues own professional growth through continuing education and in-services.
• 11. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital.

What qualifications you will need:

EXPERIENCE

Required – Successfully completed an approved Surgical Assisting Program. BLS certification maintained. Documentation of continuing education units required for CSA/CFA recertification and experience. Maintain clinical status.

Preferred – SA with a minimum of 4 years experience in all areas of surgery.

EDUCATION

Required – Minimum of one year operation room scrubbing experience.

Preferred - Minimum of two years as a surgical assistant; Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program
