Schedule: Full-Time. Must be flexible with hours based on surgical schedule. No on-call unless specified by facility. Reports to: Director of Nurses
Position Summary
The Surgical Scrub Technician (or Certified Surgical Scrub Technician) is an integral member of the surgical team. This role collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses, and other surgical staff to support safe and effective patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and the scrub technician role in supporting those procedures
Prepare and organize surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment according to physician preference cards
Maintain sterile technique throughout all phases of surgical procedures
Assist in setting up the operating room for scheduled cases
Ensure proper handling, cleaning, sterilization, and storage of instruments and equipment
Monitor and restock surgical supplies to ensure availability during procedures
Maintain and update instrument trays, preference cards, and supply lists
Follow all infection control and exposure control protocols, including bloodborne and airborne pathogen standards
Identify and report any breaks in sterile technique in accordance with policy
Participate in required safety and compliance training programs
Maintain accurate documentation related to sterilization, cleaning logs, and procedural records
Support a professional, respectful, and patient-centered environment
Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to support operational efficiency
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of an accredited surgical technology program preferred
Certification as a Surgical Scrub Technician (CST) preferred or required per facility guidelines
Prior experience in an operating room setting preferred
Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques
