Learn About a Day In the Life of a Surgical Tech:

• The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) works under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. 
• The CST ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. 
• This role ensures the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. 

Job Requirements:  

• Certification: Must hold and maintain certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or NCCT certification if practicing prior to 2009. 

• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

• Education: Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited or other nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists. 

Preferred Job Requirements:  

• Previous experience as a surgical technologist.
