Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms with the instruments, supplies, equipment, and sterile field required for surgical procedures.
- Assist surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs, passing instruments, handling sutures, and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Support patient care by assisting with positioning, prepping, draping, and specimen handling.
- Perform instrument sterilization, disinfection, assembly, storage, and quality checks in accordance with infection control standards.
- Complete surgical counts and ensure compliance with patient safety and procedural protocols.
- Clean and restock operating rooms between cases to ensure readiness for upcoming procedures.
- Pull case carts according to physician preference cards and assist with inventory management and supply ordering.
- Operate and maintain surgical equipment, performing routine inspections and troubleshooting as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and perioperative team members to deliver exceptional patient care.
- Participate in ongoing education, competency validation, and quality improvement initiatives.
Position Requirements
Education/Certification/License:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required (unless grandfathered under current regulations).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Operating room experience is preferred.
- Must be detail oriented and very organized.
- Must be able to work under the direction of the Charge Nurse and Surgery Center Director while also receiving direction from physicians and other professional personnel.
