Position Summary

The Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring the integrity, compliance,

and quality of welded products during new product development and launch activities.

This role works closely with Engineering, Product Realization, Manufacturing, and Quality

to validate weld designs, qualify welding processes, inspect welded assemblies, and

ensure customer requirements are achieved prior to production release.

The CWI serves as the technical welding expert for new customer programs, supporting

successful product launches through weld inspection, process validation, documentation,

and continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Inspect and validate welded assemblies during new product development and

launch activities.

  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and welding requirements to ensure

compliance.

  • Verify weld joint design, fit-up, weld size, penetration, and overall workmanship

meet applicable standards and customer expectations.

  • Support First Article Inspection (FAI), PPAP submissions, and customer qualification

requirements.

  • Assist Engineering in developing weld procedures and manufacturing standards for

new products.

  • Validate welding parameters and process capability prior to production release.
  • Coordinate and witness weld qualification testing as required.
  • Perform visual weld inspections in accordance with AWS standards and applicable

customer specifications.

  • Recommend and coordinate nondestructive testing (NDT) when required.
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records.
  • Identify weld defects, determine root causes, and work with cross-functional teams

to implement corrective actions.

  • Effective communication with customers, suppliers, engineering, and

manutacturing teams.

  • Ability to make sound technical decisions regarding weld acceptance.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and inspect manufactured components throughout the

production facility.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environments with appropriate personal protective

equipment.

  • Visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed weld inspections.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
