Certified Welder Position Summary

Performs a wide range of routine to complex manual, automatic, and/or semi-automatic welds utilizing a variety of equipment on high temperature and high strength metal alloys as specified by blueprints, layouts, welding procedures, and work instructions. Includes welding on commercial and military fabrications. In a team environment, work to develop processes, procedures, and tooling necessary to effectively weld completed assemblies.

 

Responsibilities:

• Properly set up and operate manual and automatic welding systems per work instructions and good welding practices. • Positions and adjusts fixtures, attachments, or workpiece on machine using visual acuity, hand tools, and measuring devices. • Adjust within procedural limits to fine-tune the process to achieve conformance standards. • Read and understand product and process drawings, procedures, weld symbols, and quality requirements. • Performs proper pre-weld cleaning and handling of parts. • Inspects hardware to ensure specifications are met by visual inspection and measuring devices. • Maintain a high level of performance while following appropriate procedures and observing all pertinent safety rules and requirements. • Maintain work area and equipment in an organized, clean, and FOD-free manner. • Obtain and maintain all required qualifications and certifications in all appropriate metals. • Ability to perform set-up and troubleshooting of weld equipment. • Understand general and weld-specific safety issues. • Provide guidance to less experienced welders as necessary. • Assist with skill development, safety, and other training of welders. • Work with Engineering as needed to develop weld processes and resolve weld issues. • Troubleshoot all weld equipment working in a team environment to maintain operational needs.

 

Qualifications:

• HS diploma or equivalent. • At least 8 years of welding or related experience or demonstrated ability to perform the described responsibilities. • Able to become certified to AWS D17.1.2001. • Able to read and understand product and process drawings, procedures, weld symbols, and quality requirements. • Must demonstrate manual dexterity. • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. • Must be able to read and understand blueprints. • Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics. • Demonstrate effective English verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. • Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player.
