Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Certified Welder with experience in structural welding and barge repair. The ideal candidate will hold an AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification (or an equivalent certification approved for work on inspected U.S. Coast Guard vessels) and be capable of producing high-quality welds in multiple positions while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Successfully pass a certified welding test in the horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Perform stick (SMAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding in all required positions.
• Weld throughout barge repair operations, including structural repairs and fabrication.
• Perform air pressure testing on barge tanks and repair identified leaks.
• Conduct basic maintenance on welding equipment, including changing wire, contact tips, nozzles, and clearing wire feed issues.
• Maintain welding leads and ensure proper grounding techniques are followed.
• Assist fitters as needed and work effectively under the direction of a leadperson.
• Work independently with minimal supervision once assigned a task.
• Follow all company safety policies and actively promote a safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification required, or equivalent certification approved for work on inspected U.S. Coast Guard vessels.
• Demonstrated ability to weld in the horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Experience with both stick and MIG welding processes.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions and safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment

• Work is performed on barges in a drydock environment.
• Must be comfortable working in confined spaces, underneath barges, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Position requires standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and working in physically demanding conditions throughout the shift.
