Business Manager (Full-Time, 12-Month)
Reports To: Superintendent of Schools
Position Summary
The Business Manager is a district-level administrator responsible for oversight of all business and operational services. This role provides strategic leadership in financial planning, resource allocation, and operational efficiency, serving as a key advisor to the Superintendent. The Business Manager works collaboratively with administrators, staff, vendors, and external partners to support district goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead development and long-range planning of the district budget
- Coordinate annual budget process and support administrators
- Prepare and present financial reports for Superintendent and Board of Education
- Monitor state and federal grants for compliance
- Oversee financial systems, internal controls, and audit compliance
- Supervise Business Office operations and accounting functions
- Oversee transportation services
- Administer employee benefits in accordance with contracts and policy
- Oversee facilities operations, maintenance, and community use
- Ensure compliance of school nutrition services
- Advise Superintendent on financial and operational matters
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Qualifications
- CT certification (085 School Business Administrator or 092) or eligibility required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required; Master's or CPA preferred
- Prior school business or finance leadership experience preferred
- Experience with school financial systems (Infinite Visions preferred)
- Knowledge of fund accounting and public sector budgeting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners
- HR/benefits administration knowledge preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and decision-making ability
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
- Effective communication in person, phone, and electronic formats
- Travel between district buildings as needed
- Occasional evening meetings, including Board of Education
- Compensation & Schedule
Full-time, salaried, exempt position. Salary range: $110,000-$120,000, based on experience and qualifications, in accordance with Board policy and applicable agreements. Comprehensive benefits included.
This 12-month position may require evening hours and extended time during budget and audit cycles.
