Pharmacist (Permanent Full-Time) Job Overview
The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications, monitoring patient drug therapies, and providing drug information and education to healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers. This role oversees daily pharmacy operations and ensures safe, effective, and compliant medication management. In the absence of the Pharmacy Director, the Pharmacist may assume leadership responsibilities and perform essential departmental duties.

Key Responsibilities Medication Preparation & Dispensing
  • Prepare, verify, label, and dispense medications, IV solutions, parenteral medications, and drug containers accurately and safely.
  • Ensure all medications distributed to patient care areas meet regulatory and quality standards.
Clinical Pharmacy Services
  • Monitor medication therapies for safety, effectiveness, and appropriateness.
  • Evaluate and communicate age-specific medication considerations.
  • Provide drug information and education to physicians, nurses, patients, and healthcare staff.
  • Participate in clinical pharmacy activities in accordance with medical staff requirements and departmental policies.
Department Operations
  • Maintain adequate medication inventory and drug supplies.
  • Ensure accurate pharmacy records and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and support personnel.
  • Assist with formulary management and Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) updates.
Emergency Response
  • Participate in Rapid Response and Code Blue events as required.
Quality & Compliance
  • Complete annual pharmacy competency assessments.
  • Participate in continuing education programs.
  • Adhere to organizational compliance policies and code of conduct.
  • Report suspected compliance or ethical concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

Education Requirements
  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • BS in Pharmacy required
  • PharmD preferred
  • NM Pharmacy Board License

Licensure Requirements
  • Current, active Pharmacist License in the State of New Mexico (or eligible for licensure upon acceptance).

Preferred Experience
  • 1 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical rotations may be considered in lieu of experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics.
  • Understanding of age-specific medication management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Leadership and supervisory abilities.
  • Experience with pharmacy information systems and automated dispensing technology.
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for medication preparation and computer work.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel for extended periods (4 8 hours).
  • Ability to operate pharmacy equipment safely and effectively.

Salary: $135, 000.00 to $168, 000.00
