Job Overview

The Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine will be an integral leader in the College of Medicine, CoM, and needs to think and function in a system context. The Chair will be responsible for expanding high-impact clinical programs and innovative diagnostic services, rebuilding research infrastructure, and strengthening departmental culture to support faculty engagement and retention.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing and communicating a vision for the future of the department and maintaining a strategic plan and goals that align with those of the CoM, UC Health, UC Physicians, VA Medical Center, and Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center
• Directing and overseeing the quality and effectiveness of the departments educational programs, fostering an environment that emphasizes and supports the importance of the departments educational mission and recruitment of trainees
• Encouraging and supporting investigation and innovation, scholarly activities, and productivity
• Implementing initiatives to promote and increase extramurally funded research in the department
• Directing and overseeing the clinical services of the department and ensuring clinical excellence through a focus on patient safety, timely, effective, efficient, and equitable care
• Recruiting, managing, evaluating, developing, and retaining talented faculty to fulfill the needs and missions of the department and various stakeholders
• Fostering a congenial mentoring environment in which trainees, faculty, and staff all feel supported and empowered to attain their greatest desired potential
• Managing the financial performance and long-term fiscal stability of the departments academic and clinical practice budgets
• Seeking opportunities to increase philanthropic support for the department and CoM and actively participating in philanthropy and development programs

Requirements

• MD or MDPh.D.
• Substantial leadership experience, a record of building research, and the ability to sustain partnerships that advance the academic research and clinical missions of the Department
• Accomplished leader who understands current trends in healthcare and medical education and wants to make an impact on medical training and values the tripartite mission of academic, medical, and research institutions

Additional Qualifications

• Considered: American Board of Pathology certification, medical license in the State of Ohio (if applicable), and a proven track record of individual scholarship, collaborative academic leadership, clinical, and research program development, educational excellence, successful faculty recruitment, retention, and advancement
