Position Summary
The Chaplain provides professional and competent spiritual care ministry and is responsible for serving the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of others in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. As a member of the healthcare team, the chaplain is directly responsible for the implementation of the mission, values, policies, and procedures of the Department of Spiritual Health Services and the facility in which they serve.
Position Specific Responsibilities
Education and/or Experience
Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED required.
State-Specific Requirements (Alaska, Oregon, and Washington):
Required: Bachelor's degree in Theology, Ministry, Counseling, Psychology, Divinity, or a related field.
Required: Completion of at least one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited or approved by ACPE, USCCB/CCA, or CASC/ACSS.
Preferred: Master's degree in a related field.
State-Specific Requirements (California):
Required: Master's Degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry, or equivalent applicable education from an accredited institution.
Required: Completion of at least one (1) unit of accredited CPE (4 units preferred).
State-Specific Requirements (Texas):
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field and one (1) unit of accredited CPE for Providence at Home roles.
Work Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the provision of spiritual/pastoral support to individuals or families required. One (1) year of experience related to loss, grief, bereavement, or trauma preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
National Chaplain Certification: Required within three (3) years of hire.
Board Certification (Preferred): Professional certification through organizations such as the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), Spiritual Care Association (SCA), or National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) is preferred for all Providence at Home locations.
California-Specific Safety Requirements:
Required: California Fire and Life Safety Card required within 30 days of hire for caregivers at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and Providence Tarzana Medical Center.
General Requirements: Current, valid driver's license and state-minimum automobile insurance maintained.
Skills and Abilities
Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions, including regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and conditions typical to a healthcare setting is expected.
