SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates at height of a chaplains scope of practice consistently demonstrating all professional competencies that are required for board certification, including operating in evidence-based practice.
  • Serves as a specialist in spiritual/existential care on an interdisciplinary palliative medicine team: Attends daily interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborates with the interdisciplinary palliative medicine team, sharing important psycho-social, spiritual/existential and family dynamic concerns.
  • Collaborates with palliative care team to participate in family care conferences, advance care planning and medical decision-making, and other palliative generalist support within the chaplains scope of practice.
  • Works with an appropriate spiritual assessment model to fully assess spiritual and existential pain, drive chaplains interventions, and contribute meaningfully to the plan of care.
  • Appropriately meets the spiritual and religious needs of patients, families, and team members from a diversity of faith backgrounds, including those of no faith. Collaboratively provides bereavement and end-of-life care for patients and their families, and supports team members with their own grief in caring for patients at the end-of-life
  • Provides institutional leadership through spiritual care education and advocacy for all disciplines, including residents and fellows, at Henry Ford Detroit.
  • Develops and facilitates non-religious spiritual formation, debriefing sessions, and self-care rituals to support palliative care team colleagues as well as other team members in need of support in difficult cases.
  • Collaborates with the spiritual care team at Henry Ford Detroit to ensure palliative care patient needs are met on evenings and weekends.

EDUCATION:

Master's degree in divinity, Theology, or a related field from an accredited school is required.

4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education

3-5 years of healthcare experience as a chaplain is preferred.
