Responsibilities

Provides pastoral care that meets the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, patients' families, medical staff and employees of Community Medical Centers.  Provides pastoral /liturgical /sacramental ministry in a hospital setting and at times within other facilities in the corporation.  Provides a priestly presence and is a professional member of the interdisciplinary care team. Makes assessments of the patient's spiritual needs and/or concerns. May provide and/or coordinate bereavement services. Makes referrals to our contacts with community religious leaders on behalf of the patient, to meet their specific religious needs. Respects and supports the spirituality of patients and staff without attempting to proselytize.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Divinity, Religion or Theology required
  • Denominational ordination in good standing required
  • 4 units of ACPE certified Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required 
  • High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate and 6 years of ministry experience may be substituted for Bachelor's Degree and experience requirement

Experience

  • 2 years of ministry experience providing spiritual care required
  • Bilingual - Spanish speaking preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • DL - Valid California Driver's License and driving record acceptable to Community Medical Centers required

Established from the roots of Inland Empire Community Health Center in Bloomington, CHSI has grown with community health centers in the counties of Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego. As such, services are offered to the neediest in each community - the un-insured and under-insured, the working poor, those with limited ability to pay, the homeless, and the indigent. Services are provided at discounted (sliding fee scale) rates for those who qualify based on gross annual income and family size.
