Responsibilities:

The Full-Time (30 hours) Board Certified Chaplain provides professional spiritual care to patients, families, and staff while supporting the mission and values of the organization. This role integrates pastoral presence, clinical excellence, administrative leadership, and technological competency to ensure high-quality, responsive, and innovative spiritual care services across the continuum of care. As part of the Patient Experience and Planetree team, this role supports our person-centered care strategy throughout Stamford Health.

  • Provide compassionate, person-centered spiritual care to individuals of diverse cultural, religious, and spiritual backgrounds.
  • Conduct comprehensive spiritual assessments and document interventions in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Offer crisis intervention, grief support, end-of-life care, and ethical consultation support.
  • Facilitate religious rituals, sacraments, and observances as appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary care teams to support whole-person care.
  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in department scheduling, coverage planning, and workflow optimization.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in EMR systems in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Utilize data systems to track spiritual care outcomes, patient needs, and service utilization.
  • Contribute to innovative initiatives that enhance access to and quality of spiritual care.
  • Provide emotional and spiritual support to staff, including debriefings following critical incidents.
  • Lead or support staff well-being initiatives.
  • Participate in organizational committees, ethics consult services, and mission integration activities.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, respect, and spiritual diversity.

Qualifications:

  • Board Certification (or can be certified within one year of hire) through APC, NACC, NAJC, or equivalent.
  • Master of Divinity (MDiv) or equivalent theological/spiritual degree from an accredited institution.
  • Endorsement by faith tradition
  • Completion of at least four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diverse spiritual, cultural, and religious traditions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Previous healthcare chaplaincy experience in hospital, hospice, or long-term care settings Preferred.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) Preferred.
  • Experience in administrative support, program coordination, or leadership roles Strongly Preferred.
