Character Greeter

 Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based cultural non-profit that welcomes visitors to four National Historic Landmarks, including Philipsburg Manor and Washington Irving’s Sunnyside. HHV offers an array of K-12 school programs, public tours, and seasonal festivals including the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze.  The organization has a national reputation for groundbreaking on-site educational programs and award-winning digital content in the content areas of Northern colonial enslavement, regional women’s history, and storytelling.

Character Greeter:

Candidates will be portraying the Headless Horseman and should be outgoing and comfortable working with the public. Applicants must be able to engage guests by bringing character to life through non-verbal exaggerated body language and posing for photos, while wearing a full-body costumes. 

Key Responsibilities

• Character Integrity: Always stay fully in character, mimicking the exact mannerisms, attitude, and movement style of the specific character. 
• Guest Interaction: Create high-energy, memorable experiences through meet-and-greets, dancing, waving, and posing for photos.  
• Non-Verbal Communication: Convey all emotions, reactions, and responses using only physical acting, as facial expressions are completely hidden by the costume.
• Costume Maintenance: Properly wear, care for, and safely store the costume, which involves lifting, storing and following strict hygiene protocols.  

Qualifications & Requirements

• Physical Stamina: Ability to endure enclosed, bulky, and potentially warm costumes while performing vigorous physical activity. 
• Height & Build Restrictions: Because character suits are pre-manufactured, performers must usually fit within specific, strict height ranges (e.g., 5'6" to 6'5" depending on the specific character). 
• Performance Skills: Previous background in acting, dance, cheerleading, or theater is highly preferred. 
• Availability: Must be willing to work nights, including weekends, holidays, and extended periods outdoors in various weather conditions. 

This is a part-time seasonal position, evening and weekend hours at special events are required. Pay rate is $25/hr
