*SummaryJob Description:*Charge Nurse Labor & Delivery- Full Time, NightsStatus: Full TimeShift: Third*About The Unit:*The Labor and Delivery unit is made up of 14 Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms, three operating rooms, and a four bed OB Emergency Department.The unit delivers approximately 3,000 babies each year. Nurses work with a variety of patients from natural childbirth to high-risk preterm multiple gestation pregnancies. Nursing staff roles include the labor nurses who support labor and delivery, and delivery team nurses caring for newborns during the immediate newborn period.The unit has 24/7 in-house anesthesia, neonatology, and OB hospitalist support.*Job Summary:*The Charge Nurse is an entry-level management position responsible for the coordination of care on designated shifts.He/she will provide leadership to the staff members of the unit in the area of patient care.A) As a Registerednurse, he/she implements the nursing process for each patient regardless of age (i.e. infancy to geriatric)assigned to his/her care and is responsible for the patient's care within the parameters of the Kentucky NursePractice Act. The charge nurse promotes positive patient outcomes; quality of care and initiates change throughactive involvement in unit-based and hospital shared-governance councils.B) National Professional NursingStandards serve as guidelines for the charge nurse as he/she utilizes critical thinking skills and exercisesappropriate nursing judgment. The charge nurse will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to improve patientoutcomes.
