Charge Nurse

Program & Location: Opioid Treatment Program at High Point's Plymouth Outpatient Campus - Plymouth, MA
Education & Experience: Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in Massachusetts
Pay Range: $35-$42/hr (Dependent on licensure, education & experience)
Shift: Monday-Friday, 4:45am-1:30pm
Status: Full Time

Charge Nurse Requirements:

  • Experience in a behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment setting;
  • Two years’ supervisory experience preferred;
  • Must present as courteous and professional at all times;
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform multiple tasks;
  • Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to organize ideas in logical and clear fashion;
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and software programs including the ability to learn, use and train HPAHO`s electronic medical records;
  • Must have the ability to work with others in cooperative and collaborative manner;
  • An understanding of the relationship between substance use and mental health issues and/or self-help programs;
  • An understanding of boundaries and ethics;
  • Comply with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Alcohol Abuse Policy and HIPAA Regulations;
  • TB screening;
  • Certification in the HPHAO approved de-escalation program;
  • CPR Certification. 

Charge Nurse Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compliance with Joint Commission, DPH, DMH, and all other regulatory agencies; 
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria related to SUD care, monitoring withdrawal (COWS, CIWA) and nursing interventions;
  • Assure patient care is meeting best practice standards;
  • Assure compliance with High Point policies and procedures;
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, promotion, training, and evaluation of nursing staff;
  • Assist in developing nursing and medication records on each patient;
  • Reviews and makes recommendations regarding policies and procedures
  • Reports to Infection Control Committee as needed;
  • Assist in monitoring inventory, ordering of medications, and equipment needed for daily operation of the program;
  • Responsible for the scheduling nurses to maintain adequate nursing staffing patterns to manage the day-to-day operations; 
  • Monitoring call outs; 
  • Responsible for accessing the acuity of unit and providing direct patient care as needed;
  • Reviews Incident Reports, as required, and ensures accurate and timely completion;
  • Provide supervision for nursing staff per HPAO supervision policy;
  • Maintains infection control data and reports;
  • Participate in all required committee meetings;
  • Responsible for the proper disposal of medications Monitors EHR records for correct and complete documentation;
  • Assists in the development and monitoring of group schedule, as applicable;
  • Encourages nursing participation in education opportunities;
  • Responsible to attend monthly meetings as directed by Director of Nursing or Nurse Manager;
  • Attend mandatory training to update knowledge base and enhance both professional and personal growth;
  • Provides patient education groups or designates another RN/LPN, as applicable;
  • Responsible to ensure patient plan of care/treatment plan is updated accordingly including following any crisis intervention;
  • Assures the debriefing is completed after code blue or code green;
  • Always utilize standard precautions;
  • Demonstrates behaviors that recognize the rights of patients/clients as defined by the patient’s right's policy;
  • Attend all facility meetings and case conferences as director by Supervisor;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Program Director, Site Director, Director of Nursing, CNO or COO. 

OTP Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dose as needed;
  • Collaborates with the OTP practitioner to arrange for yearly physicals;
  • Monitors methadone count;
  • Participates in MDT and managers meetings;
  • Orders and maintains clinic supplies such as bottles and caps;
  • Completes daily and weekly documentation including Tally;
  • Enters and reviews laboratory results, and infection control.
