    Description

    Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Checker Loader(Forklift Operator) in our Carpet Cushion Department, at our Richmond Plant location (2400 Richmond Highway, Richmond VA 23234). Checker Loaders are responsible for safely and efficiently unloading/loading trucks and performing final quality check on finished product and load on trailer per customer requirements. This position plays a vital supply-chain role by ensuring inventory is efficiently moved through the manufacturing plant while strictly adhering to workplace safety standards and paperwork.

    This position is Monday through Friday, 1st Shift (6:00am to 2:30pm). Additionally, in order to meet production needs, all employees in our manufacturing industry are expected to work more than 8-hour shifts and on weekends (if needed).

    Essential Functions

    1. Load trucks in proper sequence.
    2. Check loading tickets.
    3. Lockout trailers before loading and unlock once loading is complete.
    4. Use forklift to load trailers as needed.
    5. Record and track information in inventory control system.
    6. Verify trucks have been loaded properly.
    7. Move stock in loading area as necessary.
    8. Inspect trailers for damage.
    9. Run manifest and bills of lading.
    10. Handle rolls of carpet cushion up to 80 lbs
    11. Lock out and chock wheels.
    12. Must successfully be forklift certified.
    13. Other duties as assigned

    Education and Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Must have at least 2 years of experience operating forklift in a manufacturing, chemical, or production environment 
    • Must be forklift certified and go successfully pass Carpenter Co.'s Forklift Certification process
