Position Summary

Lab Technicians facilitate the preparation and testing of steel samples for verification of conformance to customer and SSAB requirements. Product cannot leave SSAB without required testing.

Main Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Accurately reporting testing information within a timely manner
  • Ability to perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment including validation checks to ensure lab testing equipment is measuring accurately
  • Low level troubleshooting to assist in returning faulty equipment to operational status

Required

  • Must possess the ability to complete all required tasks with minimal supervision
  • Self-starter
  • Must have high stress tolerance
  • Must be able to handle very fast pace with little to no margin for error
  1. Education

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • General studies degree or higher

Supervisory Responsibilities / Direct Reports

This position has no supervisory responsibilities or direct reports.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee will be required to sit, stand, and/or walk as follows:

  • Sitting 0.5-1 hour at a time; average 1-2 hours a day
  • Standing 3-5 hour at a time; average 8-10 hours a day
  • Walking 3-5 hours at a time; average 8-10 hours a day
  • Alternate sitting and standing as needed throughout the 12 hour shift.

The position requires the following talking, vision and hearing capabilities:

  • Talking person to person, on the phone, and in a group setting
  • Hearing in person, on the phone, and in group a setting
  • Vision at near, midrange, far, and peripheral vision
  • Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

The position requires the following pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying capabilities:

  • Push, pull, lift, and/or carry items weighing 45 pounds or less

The employee will occasionally be required to:

  • Stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Reaching above shoulder, reaching at waist/desk level, and reaching below waist level

The employee will frequently be required to:

  • Twisting at waist level

The employee will constantly be required to:

  • Handle, grip, hold, and grasp with left hand and with both hands together
  • Fingering with both hands together or separately
  • Feel with both hands together or separately; sense temperature and textures with both hands together or separately

The employee will be required to work in the following conditions: (While wearing safety equipment and/or clothing for protection from hazards)

  • Inside
  • Amid noise
  • Amid mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards

  • Position is full time, non-exempt, and is eligible for overtime
  • Position works (12) hours a day; day shift
