JOB DESCRIPTION
Chemical Operator / Manufacturing Operator
Location: Chicago, IL 60638
Pay Rate: $22.50/hr on W2
Shift: 2nd Shift | 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM
Duration: Approximately 2 Months (Temp Assignment)
Position Overview
Seeking candidates with manufacturing and chemical handling experience to support packaging, loading/unloading, and process operations within a dynamic chemical manufacturing environment. Candidates must possess strong reading, math, and technical skills and be comfortable working around chemicals, machinery, and industrial equipment.
Required Qualifications
Required Skills
- Strong English reading and comprehension skills
- Basic math and technical aptitude
- Ability to qualify on various manufacturing processes and equipment
- Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, formulas, and procedure manuals
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions
Required Experience
- 1–2 years of manufacturing experience (chemical industry preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of chemical mixing experience
- Experience with tanker loading/unloading required
- Railcar loading/unloading experience preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Operate packaging and manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently
- Handle, transport, and store chemical materials using motorized and non-motorized equipment
- Perform manual and automated process operations using field controls and computer-controlled interface systems
- Package materials into appropriate containers following established procedures
- Respond to emergency situations including shutdown procedures when necessary
- Complete production and operational documentation including:
- Plant data sheets
- Environmental reports
- Inventory sheets
- Forklift inspection reports
- Maintain high standards of quality, housekeeping, and productivity
- Follow all EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) policies and procedures
- Support overtime, weekend, and holiday work as production demands require
- Successfully complete required operator certifications and plant training programs
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, and balance throughout the shift
- Regularly lift/move up to 25 lbs
- Frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs
- Occasionally lift/move up to 75 lbs with assistance
Work Environment Exposure Includes:
- Wet and humid conditions
- Moving mechanical equipment
- Chemicals including acids and bases
- Heat, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate noise
- Outdoor weather conditions and elevated work areas
