Chemical Process Engineer

Contract-to-Hire
Location: Portland, OR

Aspen Technical Staffing is seeking an experienced Chemical Process Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity with our client in Portland, Oregon. This position is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or oil & gas facilities who is passionate about engineering excellence, technical accuracy, and quality assurance.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership through design reviews, engineering oversight, and mentoring while ensuring the highest standards of quality across multidisciplinary projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual and detailed process engineering design for advanced manufacturing facilities.
  • Review and validate engineering calculations, specifications, and design assumptions to ensure technical accuracy and consistency.
  • Conduct quality reviews of process engineering deliverables prepared by other engineers.
  • Identify design discrepancies, technical issues, and opportunities for improvement while maintaining compliance with project requirements.
  • Solve complex engineering challenges using industry best practices and sound engineering judgment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers by providing technical guidance and promoting engineering best practices.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and attention to detail across all phases of project execution.
  • Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and technical discussions with internal project teams.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables align with applicable industry codes, standards, and client requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Chemical Process Engineer supporting facility design projects.
  • Experience within advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or oil & gas industries.
  • Minimum of 1 year of semiconductor facility design experience.
  • Strong understanding of process engineering principles and engineering documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing semiconductor facility systems.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Navisworks, or similar design and collaboration software.
  • Experience reviewing construction deliverables including:
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Process calculations
    • Equipment specifications
    • Detail drawings
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify technical inconsistencies and improve engineering quality.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and fostering technical development within project teams.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple engineering disciplines and geographically distributed teams.
