Job Title: QC Chemist / Chemical Technician
PART TIME position: 20 hours a week on day shift working every weekend and 4 hours during the week.

Job Description
This role focuses on performing detailed analytical testing on hydrocarbon products such as gasoline, diesel, military jet fuel, and transmix to ensure they meet regulatory and quality standards. You will apply CARB, EPA, and ASTM methods to evaluate product quality, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, and support quality control processes in a professional petroleum laboratory environment. This position offers significant hands-on experience, technical growth, and a high level of independence in daily lab operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed analytical testing on gasoline, diesel, military jet fuel, and transmix products to ensure regulatory compliance using CARB, EPA, and ASTM test methods.
- Test various petroleum products in accordance with ASTM methodologies, including but not limited to ASTM D6377, ASTM D7536, ASTM D86, ASTM D7094, and ASTM D5972.
- Conduct chemistry-based quality control tests and document all analytical results accurately and promptly.
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on laboratory equipment used to test gasoline, diesel, and certify military jet fuel.
- Maintain complete and accurate supporting documentation for all testing, calibration, and maintenance programs in accordance with quality standards.
- Communicate with delivering pipeline personnel to arrange off-site sample collection and ensure timely analysis of samples.
- Maintain laboratory integrity by following proper housekeeping procedures and ensuring a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Perform regular calibration checks and preventative maintenance to ensure instruments and equipment operate within required specifications.
- Coordinate oversight programs with third-party laboratories and collaborate with the Quality Control Manager to help manage monthly laboratory expenses.
- Support the initiation, customization, and training related to third-party Laboratory Information Systems as needed.
- Follow established safety protocols and utilize automated safety systems while working independently in the lab.
- Perform other related duties as requested or assigned to support overall quality control and laboratory operations.
Essential Skills
- Prior experience in the petroleum or chemical industry, with refinery experience considered a plus.
- General chemistry knowledge and practical experience applying chemistry principles in a laboratory setting.
- Professional laboratory experience of at least 1+ year, or an equivalent amount of related work experience in a lab environment.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory testing, including sample handling, preparation, and analysis.
- Ability to perform and interpret ASTM-based testing on petroleum products.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow detailed procedures and accurately record results.
- High level of reliability and consistency in following schedules, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Experience with quality control practices in a lab environment, including documentation and compliance.
- Capability to perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
- Comfort working independently for extended periods while maintaining communication with off-site team members.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in a chemistry-related field is preferred.
- Oil and gas industry experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with ASTM standards and methods for petroleum testing is a plus.
- Experience with third-party Laboratory Information System initiation, customization, and training is a plus.
- Experience in chemical engineering, chemistry testing, or chemical handling is advantageous.
- Experience in quality control environments, particularly those involving petroleum or chemical products, is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong attention to detail, technical skills, and industry knowledge over time.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with pipeline personnel, remote lab teams, and leadership.
Work Environment
This role is based in a dedicated laboratory setting focused on testing real-world petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. Samples are brought to the lab from the field by other personnel, and the technician typically works independently for the entire shift, often as the only person on-site. Leadership and employees at other lab locations are available for communication and support. The schedule consists of two 8 hour day shifts on Saturday and Sunday 1st shift, plus one 4 hour 1st shift during the week with flexibility on the day during the week and the time. Before working independently, the technician receives hands-on training alongside another employee. The lab is equipped with an automated safety system to support safe independent work. The environment emphasizes precision, cleanliness, and adherence to safety and quality procedures while providing a high level of autonomy and ownership over daily lab operations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
