Position Summary:

The Chemical Worker - Rail is responsible for loading, unloading, transporting, and managing materials within the facility, including containers. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role supports safe and efficient handling of both hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read work orders or follow verbal instructions to identify materials or containers to be moved.

  • Operate tractors or forklifts to load and unload materials from trucks and railcars.

  • Load and unload tank trucks and railcars.

  • Fill drums, totes, tankers, railcars, and pails, ensuring proper:

  • Mixing

  • Blending

  • Packaging of chemicals in compliance with environmental regulations

  • Transport materials between storage and designated areas.

  • Operate industrial vehicles to support material handling activities.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Hazardous Waste & Compliance Duties:

  • Generate, handle, and inspect hazardous waste and storage areas.
  • Respond to hazardous waste spills and incidents per site emergency plans.
  • Prepare and maintain hazardous waste documentation, including:
  • Manifests
  • Inspection logs
  • Waste determinations
  • Regulatory reports

Qualifications:

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 months of related experience and/or training
  • Ability to:
  • Read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals
  • Write routine reports and correspondence
  • Communicate effectively in group settings
  • Solve problems in standardized situations

Preferred

  • Forklift certification
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to hazardous fumes or odors
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
  • Frequent work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/move:

  • Up to 25 lbs regularly

  • 50 lbs frequently

  • Up to 75 lbs occasionally

  • Regularly required to:

  • Stand, walk, and sit

  • Use hands to handle objects or tools

  • Reach with arms

  • Climb and balance

  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
