| Job Description: | Accessioning: Receive case submissions from delivery services (FedEx) and couriers. Unpack specimens, label requisition and specimens including the assignment of a laboratory accession number, and verify appropriate materials received for each case. Maintain chain of custody. Initiate and maintain files. Triage: Enter case information including demographics, specimen type, and specimen volume in laboratory database. Route case to receive appropriate testing. Sendouts: Prepare specimens for delivery to designated referral labs. Label, aliquot, package specimens for safe transport, and maintain chain of custody. Histology: Receive histology submissions from delivery services (FedEx) and couriers. Unpack specimens, label requisition including the assignment of a laboratory accession number, and verify appropriate materials received for each case. When returned, match blocks and slides and ensure appropriate labeling. Maintain chain of custody. Initiate and maintain files. Kits: Prepare and ship supplies to medical examiner offices. Analysis: Assist with the analysis of biological specimens for the presence/absence of volatiles and drugs using a variety of analytical techniques including immunoassay, gas chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. |
| Expected Salary: | Starting salary is between $22.03 - $25.00 per hour |
| Required Qualifications: | Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a closely related field. |
| Preferred: | Bachelor’s degree in one of the natural/life sciences with undergraduate education in biology, chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, or related field; and experience working in an analytical toxicology laboratory. Communication skills which will allow the prospective employee to interact with medical examiners and other health professionals in a professional manner. Ability to work in a potentially stressful environment with potentially infectious and biohazardous materials. Ability to quickly learn various aspects of lab operations. Knowledge of medical terminology. |
