Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates (WJE) is seeking an enthusiastic Chemistry Laboratory Technician to join our materials Science team, based out of the Janney Technical Center (JTC) in Northbrook, Illinois.

WJE's materials scientists provide comprehensive consulting services for the evaluation and testing of construction materials—both new and old. As a Chemistry Laboratory Technician, you will be an essential part of the team, supporting and working alongside industry-leading experts as we work to solve some of the most interesting challenges in the built world.

Responsibilities

  • Perform wet chemical and instrumental analyses, under the guidance of experienced materials scientists, including: completing stoichiometric calculations, preparing chemical solutions of specified concentrations, weighing samples, and performing titrations

  • Accurately record and organize data for analysis while exercising good judgment in assessing the reasonableness of test results

  • Assume responsibility for key aspects of laboratory safety, maintenance, and quality assurance, including: setting up, operating, and maintaining laboratory instruments, cleaning glassware, and restocking laboratory supplies, reagents, and solutions

  • Assist with the ISO 17025 quality assurance program

  • Interface with project teams and disciplines across the company

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Chemistry

  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a chemistry laboratory environment

  • Solid foundation in basic analytical chemistry principles

WJE offers a robust, total compensation structure, where the hourly rate is just one component of an employee’s annual earnings. Additionally, employees may be eligible to receive overtime and variable compensation based on personal and company performance, often resulting in above-market annual earnings. Actualhourly rate will be based on several factors including consideration for a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the rolewhile remaining mindful of our commitment to internal equity. A good faith estimate of the starting hourly rate (gross) for this position is in the following range:  

$26.50 - $39.75
