UAB Medicine is seeking a transformational Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to build and lead a truly integrated, enterprise-wide compliance function within one of the nations largest and most complex academic health systems. This is a rare opportunity to shape the compliance strategy for an $8.5B organization spanning a nationally recognized academic medical center, multiple community and critical access hospitals, a broad ambulatory and physician enterprise, affiliated entities, an insurance plan, accountable care organization, and extensive research and academic operations.
The CCO will be responsible for the design, implementation, integration, and oversight of UAB Medicines enterprise-wide compliance program, encompassing clinical, research, academic, physician, ambulatory, insurance, and administrative operations across a highly complex and evolving health system. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer with direct access to executive leadership and the Board, the CCO will provide strategic counsel on enterprise compliance risk, lead enterprise-wide risk assessments, and oversee the development and execution of the compliance work plan. The role is accountable for compliance auditing and monitoring, investigations, regulatory interactions, policy development, education and training initiatives, and enterprise compliance governance across UAB Medicine and its affiliated entities. The CCO will evaluate the existing compliance structure, staffing model, governance processes, and functional capabilities to develop a future-state operating model that supports the size, complexity, and continued growth of the enterprise.
The CCO will play a pivotal role in transforming the compliance function from a historically decentralized and operationally reactive structure into a mature, strategically aligned enterprise program capable of supporting one of the nations largest academic health systems. This leader will assess organizational capabilities, structure, staffing, governance, and operational processes while building a scalable compliance infrastructure designed to support the future growth and integration of the enterprise. This leader will also serve as the primary liaison with external regulators and enforcement agencies and will play a key advisory role in evaluating compliance implications of strategic initiatives, including system integration activities, Epic implementation, affiliations, acquisitions, new clinical programs, and evolving reimbursement and coding models.
The selected CCO will possess (not limited to):
