Chief Development Officer
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Salary: 140,000 - 180,000


We are seeking a Chief Development Officer for our Human Services organization in Los Angeles, CA. The Chief Development Officerwill collaborate closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to formulate and execute an overarching fund development and marketing strategy to meet both current and future organizational needs. This role plays a pivotal role in grant management and has a significant outward-facing component, including donor stewardship and management of fundraising events. Internally, the position is integral to the senior management team, providing strategic guidance and overseeing staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute the overall development strategy, encompassing Events, Annual Fund, Major Gifts, Capital Campaign, and Legacy/Endowment Gifts.
  • Coordinate ongoing annual giving initiatives, ensuring achievement of financial goals and associated targets.
  • Manage all aspects of donor cultivation, solicitation, and recognition, including prospect list creation, monthly activity reporting, and progress updates.
  • Collaborate with the Grants Manager, CFO, and Executive Director to ensure grant oversight and compliance.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with major donors, coordinating visits, meetings, and events.
  • Develop and implement digital fundraising campaigns and legacy giving programs.
  • Expand and diversify revenue sources as outlined in the strategic plan, including grants, individual giving, corporate partnerships, and potential future campaigns.
  • Act as the lead staff liaison to board committees on resource development and communications, aligning strategies with the organizational goals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of demonstrated fund development and communications experience, with supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Solid experience and knowledge in grant management and administration.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, creative, and self-motivated.
  • Proficient in DonorPerfect (or equivalent donor software system) and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to plan and implement activities within policies and procedures, maintain positive working relationships, demonstrate initiative and accountability, manage time effectively, and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Extensive experience supervising grants and communications staff.
