Make an Impact.A great hotel experience depends on hundreds of things working exactly as they should - and a great Chief Engineer understands that the job is about more than keeping the equipment running.At Cambria Hotel Boston Downtown, we're looking for an experienced, hands-on engineering leader who understands complex building operations, takes ownership, develops people, and sees the hotel through the eyes of our guests.Our Chief Engineer leads the hotel's engineering, maintenance, and related building operations, with responsibility for the physical condition, reliability, safety, and efficiency of the property and its systems.Just as importantly, this person will be part of our leadership team and our Journey culture - where we believe in creating meaningful connections, empowering our associates, taking personal responsibility, and working together to deliver memorable stays.What You'll DoLead, coach, schedule, and develop the hotel's engineering and maintenance team.Oversee the operation and maintenance of the hotel's HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, elevator, and other critical building systems.Develop and execute preventive maintenance strategies that protect the physical asset, reduce downtime, and extend equipment life.Routinely inspect guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, building systems, and equipment to identify issues before they become problems.Troubleshoot building and equipment failures and coordinate timely repairs.Oversee outside vendors, contractors, repairs, renovations, and installations while ensuring work meets hotel expectations and applicable safety and building requirements.Manage departmental scheduling, payroll, purchasing, expenses, and budget performance.Maintain appropriate engineering records, work orders, preventive maintenance documentation, and departmental reporting.Partner closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, and other operating departments to prioritize maintenance needs while minimizing disruption to our guests.Promote a culture of safety, accountability, cleanliness, organization, and care for the physical asset.Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and support sustainable building practices.Respond effectively when the unexpected happens. Hotels operate 24/7, and our Chief Engineer must be a calm, resourceful problem solver when the building decides not to cooperate.The Leader We're Looking ForTechnical ability matters. Leadership matters just as much. We're looking for someone who leads from the front - a leader who doesn't simply identify a problem and hand it off, but teaches, coaches, follows through, and builds a stronger department in the process.Previous engineering, maintenance, facilities, or building operations experience, with demonstrated supervisory or management responsibility.Strong working knowledge of commercial building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general facilities maintenance.Demonstrated ability to lead and develop people, establish expectations, hold a team accountable, and create an effective maintenance operation.Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a proactive rather than reactive approach to building maintenance.Ability to prioritize competing needs in a busy hotel environment while maintaining attention to detail.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with associates, hotel leadership, guests, vendors, and contractors.Comfort using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant technology.A strong commitment to safety, quality, preventive maintenance, and responsible stewardship of the property.Hospitality experience is highly valued, but we are also interested in accomplished engineering leaders from complex commercial buildings, facilities, residential, institutional, or similar environments who understand that hospitality ultimately means taking care of people.Our Journey CultureAt Cambria Boston, engineering isn't a department operating behind the scenes - it is an essential part of the guest experience.A comfortable room.
