The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all engineering operations within the facility, including maintenance, repair, and performance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This role leads the engineering team, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and maintains efficient building operations.

  • Key Responsibilities

    Operations & Maintenance

    • Oversee daily operation of all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety).
    • Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
    • Ensure timely completion of work orders and maintenance tasks.
    • Monitor building systems performance and implement improvements.
    • Respond to and manage emergency repairs and troubleshooting.
    • Leadership & Team Management

      • Supervise, train, and mentor engineers, mechanics, and technicians.
      • Assign work orders and prioritize daily/weekly tasks.
      • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching.
      • Promote safe work practices and enforce safety protocols.
      • Compliance & Safety

        • Ensure compliance with OSHA, local, state, and federal regulations.
        • Maintain safety programs and audit readiness.
        • Oversee fire/life safety systems and emergency procedures.
        • Budgeting & Vendor Management

          • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets.
          • Coordinate and oversee vendors and contractors.
          • Review proposals, negotiate service contracts, and control costs.
          • Administrative & Reporting

            • Maintain accurate documentation (CMMS, maintenance logs, inspections).
            • Prepare reports on system performance, repairs, and capital planning.
            • Track KPIs, expenses, and operational metrics.

  • Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent (required); technical or engineering degree preferred.
    • 5–10+ years of experience in facility engineering or building maintenance.
    • Strong experience in HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.
    • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required.
    • Relevant licenses/certifications (e.g., Stationary Engineer, EPA, HVAC) preferred.
