The Lawrence Hotel, a proud member of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection, celebrates the vibrant culture of Lawrenceville while delivering the elevated guest experience synonymous with Hilton. As we prepare to welcome our first guests, we are seeking an experienced and hands-on Chief Engineer to lead all engineering, maintenance, and facility operations, ensuring the property is safe, efficient, and maintained to the highest standards from day one.


Position Overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and safety of the hotel’s physical plant, equipment, and building systems. This leadership role will oversee preventive maintenance programs, capital projects, vendor management, and energy efficiency initiatives while supporting a guest-focused environment that reflects the quality and character of The Lawrence Hotel.


Key Responsibilities

Engineering Operations & Facility Management

  • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of all hotel systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and building controls.
  • Ensure the property is maintained in excellent condition, supporting both guest comfort and operational efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations, minimizing disruption to guests and operations.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment performance.

Preventive Maintenance & Asset Protection

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for guestrooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify and address maintenance needs proactively.
  • Support capital planning, equipment replacement, and long-term asset management.
  • Ensure compliance with all brand standards, local codes, and regulatory requirements.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Maintain and monitor all life safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting, and backup power.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, local building codes, environmental regulations, and Hilton safety standards.
  • Lead safety training and maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Coordinate inspections with local authorities and third-party vendors.

Team Leadership & Vendor Management

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise engineering and maintenance team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.
  • Manage relationships with contractors, service providers, and utility vendors.
  • Control departmental expenses and manage the engineering budget effectively.

Pre-Opening Responsibilities

  • Participate in building walk-throughs, punch list completion, and system commissioning.
  • Coordinate equipment setup, warranty documentation, and service contracts.
  • Establish maintenance programs, inventory levels, and operating procedures prior to opening.
  • Support opening readiness to ensure a smooth and successful launch.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering or maintenance leadership experience in a hotel or commercial facility; hotel experience preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs, capital planning, and vendor management.
  • Working knowledge of life safety systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Hilton or full-service hotel experience preferred.
