Job Description

Chief Estimator - Construction

A well-established construction company is seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead its preconstruction and estimating department. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the estimating process, developing accurate and competitive project bids, and guiding the company's overall preconstruction strategy.

The Chief Estimator will work closely with executive leadership, project management teams, and clients to ensure project budgets are accurate, competitive, and aligned with company goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the estimating department and preconstruction team
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates for large construction projects
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop accurate project budgets
  • Manage quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid evaluations
  • Develop relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
  • Establish estimating standards, procedures, and cost databases
  • Participate in bid strategy, risk evaluation, and contract negotiations
  • Collaborate with executives, project managers, and business development teams
  • Mentor and develop junior estimators and senior estimating staff
  • Support preconstruction planning and project feasibility analysis
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in construction estimating
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing estimating teams
  • Proven track record preparing and reviewing estimates for large or complex projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost structures
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Experience with estimating software and advanced Excel modeling
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
Compensation and Benefits
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities, ranging from $140,000 - $190,000 per year
