The Opportunity

Laguna Healthcare Corporation, a tribally chartered nonprofit healthcare organization serving the Pueblo of Laguna in Laguna, New Mexico, is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization through its next phase of growth and help shape its long-term strategic direction. The organization provides comprehensive primary care, behavioral health, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and preventive health services to the community it serves.

The Position

The Chief Executive Officer will work closely with Board of Directors to deliver quality healthcare services while executing its long-term strategic plan. The CEO will assist the Board of Directors in setting the future path of the organization. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Corporation, including oversight of a School Based Health Center, Community Health Clinic, financial management, and programming and community engagement. This position is also tasked with expanding LHCs services to include a dental clinic and other specialty services such as Obstetrics/Gynecology, Maternal Health, Audiology, Podiatry, Nephrology and Pediatrics.

The Ideal Candidate

• Bachelor Degree in Public/Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field from an accredited college or university required
• Master Degree in related field preferred
• American College Executive Healthcare preferred
• Minimum Five (5) years of senior-level leadership experience. Experience in an Indian Health Service or Tribal Clinic healthcare setting is strongly preferred
• Must possess good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Native American preferred

The Organization

The Laguna Healthcare Corporation is a chartered entity of the Pueblo of Laguna that was established on December 19, 2015, by Tribal Council Resolution 74-15. The organization generates $30M in revenue, has 86 employees, 32,000+ annual visits, and serves over 3,500 patients. It offers services at three locations; Laguna Community Health Center, Laguna Dental Clinic, and Laguna Acoma Teen Health Center. Its primary healthcare facility is Laguna Community Health Center in Paraje, New Mexico. The center uses an integrated-care model that includes family and primary care, behavioral health services, pharmacy services, laboratory testing, physical therapy, diagnostic imaging, community health programs, and expanding dental and urgent care services. Laguna Healthcare Corporation aims to improve population health, patient experience, and system sustainability through its four operational pillars: Improve Workforce Experience, Quality Improvement and Accreditation, Financial Sustainability, and Facility Expansion.

The Location

The Pueblo of Laguna, New Mexico (Western Keres: Kawaika [k?w?jk?]) is a federally recognized tribe of Native American Pueblo people in west-central New Mexico, near the city of Albuquerque, in the United States. The Pueblo is governed by a tribal government led by a Governor and Tribal Council and is known for its strong cultural heritage, traditional arts, and farming history. Part of the Laguna territory is included in the Albuquerque metropolitan area, chiefly around Lagunas Route 66 Resort and Casino. The name, Laguna, is Spanish (meaning "small lake") and derives from the lake on their reservation. This body of water was formed by an ancient dam that was constructed by the Laguna people. After the Pueblo Revolt of 1680-1696, the Mission San José de la Laguna was erected by the Spanish at the old pueblo (now Old Laguna) and finished around July 4, 1699. Laguna is surrounded by enchanting mesas and is situated at the foothills of the beautiful mountains of Mount Taylor. Laguna is located 45 miles west of Albuquerque on Interstate 40. The reservation consists of approximately 500,000 acres of land situated in Cibola, Valencia, Bernalillo and Sandoval counties. The residents of Laguna Pueblo live in six villages which are Laguna, Mesita, Paguate, Seama, Paraje, and Encinal. The Tribal administration building is located in the village of Laguna. Recognized as one of the most culturally diverse cities in the country, Albuquerques ethnic tapestry is reflected in its architecture, artwork, cultural centers and cuisine. Countless customs and traditions are a vibrant part of daily life in the city, making Albuquerque the cultural capital of the Southwest. New Mexicos largest city, the Albuquerque Metro area has over 920,000 residents and is growing at a steady pace of about 1 percent a year. Even as a larger city, Albuquerque cant help but retain its neighborhood feel.
