Chief Executive Officer

Ijams Nature Center is a nationally respected nonprofit natural area along the Tennessee River near downtown Knoxville, connecting hundreds of thousands of people each year to the natural world through environmental education, land conservation, outdoor recreation, and community partnerships. Spanning more than 336 acres and anchoring Knoxville's nationally known Urban Wilderness, Ijams is both a beloved community asset and a regional destination.

The organization enters its next chapter from a position of strength: financially sound, operationally strong, and backed by deep community trust and an engaged board. Ijams Nature Center seeks an accomplished, mission-driven executive to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer and carry this momentum forward. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will hold overall responsibility for strategy, operations, and external leadership, guiding a beloved, highly visible institution while sustaining organizational excellence and thoughtfully guiding what comes next.

Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range is $120,000 to $150,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Location

This position is based at Ijams Nature Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. The role requires a consistent physical presence on site and in the community to meet with partners, funders, and constituents. Occasional evening and weekend availability for events, programs, and organizational activities is required.
