About The Hatch Group
The Hatch Group is a closely held commercial asphalt and facilities company based in Plainville, Massachusetts. We deliver paving, pavement preservation, reclamation and milling, sealcoating, snow and facilities support to commercial and municipal clients across the Northeast.
Our culture is grounded in transparency, integrity, and a genuine commitment to doing the work right. We hold ourselves to high standards — in the materials we use, the service we deliver, and the way we treat the people on our team.
We are in an active phase of growth, pursuing an expansion strategy along the East Coast. We are building a leadership team that is equipped to grow with us.
The Role
This is a newly elevated position created to meet the demands of our company's growth. As CFO, you will serve as the senior financial leader of The Hatch Group — a direct partner to ownership on significant business decisions.
The work is both strategic and operational. You will manage the day-to-day financial health of the business while simultaneously driving high-priority initiatives: an ERP implementation, active M&A transactions, and the financial infrastructure needed to support multi-state operations. You will lead a finance team of 2–5 direct reports.
What You'll Own
- Full financial operations — reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and internal controls — keeping the business running and positioned to grow.
- Job costing and project-level profitability — the financial backbone of everything we do in the field.
- End-to-end M&A — due diligence, deal modeling, transaction coordination, and post-close integration.
- ERP selection and implementation — you’ll lead the process from assessment through go-live, partnering with ownership and outside IT consultants.
- Tax compliance, bonding, and risk management across an expanding multi-state footprint.
- Strategic partnership with ownership — capital allocation, growth decisions, and long-range planning at the highest level of the business.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of progressive financial leadership at the CFO, VP Finance, or senior Controller level.
- Industry background in construction, paving, field services, or a closely related trade.
- Proven M&A experience: due diligence, deal modeling, and post-close integration.
- Strong job costing and construction financial management experience.
- Experience managing banking, bonding, and insurance relationships.
- Massachusetts & Florida employment law knowledge and multi-state tax experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or CMA; MBA a plus.
- ERP selection or implementation experience.
- Background in seasonal operations or a family-owned business.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage compliance and certified payroll.
- Prior experience in a family-owned or owner-operated company.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary of $160,000–$190,000, commensurate with experience.
- Discretionary performance bonus.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
- 401(k) with company match.
- Company-paid life insurance.
- Paid time off (PTO) plus paid holidays.
- Volunteer time off (VTO) to give back to causes you care about.
- A genuine family-owned culture where people know your name and your work matters.
- Occasional travel required — estimated up to 15% annually — to support acquisition due diligence, post-close integration, and multi-state operations.
- Hybrid schedule flexibility; East Coast travel as needed to support operations and acquisitions.
