Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: New Jersey
Department: Finance
Reports to: President
Supervises: Finance team (3 direct reports)
Status: Full-time, Exempt
 

Position Summary

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join a growing energy solutions provider. The CFO will serve as a key partner to the executive leadership team, overseeing all financial aspects of the organization. This includes financial strategy, planning, reporting, budgeting, risk management, and ensuring long-term financial health. The CFO will lead financial operations to support growth, optimize performance, and enable investments in innovative engineering and decarbonization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all financial operations including accounting, payroll, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management
  • Develop and implement financial strategy aligned with organizational growth objectives
  • Prepare and present financial reports for executive leadership and board stakeholders
  • Oversee internal controls, compliance, and audit processes
  • Manage annual operating and capital budgets; monitor performance and drive corrective actions
  • Lead FP&A to evaluate business initiatives and support decision-making
  • Oversee capital raising, financing, and funding strategies to support expansion
  • Optimize working capital and ensure liquidity for operations
  • Partner with operations and engineering teams to develop financial models
  • Manage relationships with banks, investors, auditors, and external stakeholders
  • Support acquisitions through financial assessment and integration
  • Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing finance team
  • Implement and maintain financial systems, tools, and ERP/accounting platforms
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax filings, and reporting requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field; MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred
  • 10+ years of senior finance leadership experience (CFO, VP Finance, or Director of Finance) in construction, utilities, engineering, or related industries
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP standards and private company financial operations
  • Experience with public-sector or municipal contracting, incentives, or energy-efficiency programs strongly desired
  • Proven ability to raise capital and manage financing (debt, equity, grants, project financing)
  • Track record of establishing and maintaining internal controls, audit, and compliance frameworks
  • Strong leadership and people development skills
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, financial modeling, and valuation skills
  • High integrity, ethical standards, and ability to operate in a mission-driven organization
  • Strong stakeholder management abilities, including external partners (banks, investors, municipalities)
  • Must be physically based in New Jersey; travel as needed
