Cleveland Clinic, a distinguished academic healthcare system, announces its search for the Enterprise Chief of the Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute (HVTI), a flagship Institute with Departments and Divisions in Ohio, Florida, London and Abu Dhabi.

HVTI encompasses the Departments of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Cardiovascular Medicine.  The mission of the Institute: We must Innovate and Change; Preserve our Team-based Practice, Research, and Education; Compassionately maintain Untouchable High-Quality Patient Care; with Respect, Efficiency and Access for ALL.

HVTI is comprised of 403 staff physicians, 257 advanced practice providers, 1,100 inpatient and outpatient nurses, 775 Allied Health (non-Nursing), and 200 additional non-clinical caregivers.  The Institute partners closely with the Heart, Vascular & Thoracic teams at Cleveland Clinic Florida, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Cleveland Clinic London.  In total, the Institute provides services at 18 hospitals and 46 Clinic Locations. In 2025, HVTIs volume consisted of approximately 425,950 evaluation and management visits, 28,000 Admissions and 20,725 surgical cases.

HVTI has a significant educational and research impact on the health system. There are 107 residents and fellows under the Institute. HVTI has 19 training programs.  HVTI currently has $49.3 million in research funding. In 2025, the Institute had 1,072 IRB Studies-(399 Active, 666 Exempt, and 7 Quality) and 1,123 publications.

The Institute Chief will be a physician leader with impressive credentials who reports to the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise Chief of Staff.  The Institute Chief must be able to implement and drive the strategic mission of the Cleveland Clinic Health System.  The ideal candidate must have a record of excellence in clinical care, education and scholarship as well as significant experience in leadership, administration and program development.  The Institute Chief will be a demonstrated leader with strength in communication and ability to collaborate both within and outside of the Institute.  Duties and responsibilities of the new Institute Chief will be to provide leadership for the Institute across the global sites, and will include oversight of general operations, quality and safety, research, innovation, education, recruitment, retention and mentoring of medical staff, administrators, educators and researchers
