Summary


SUMMARY: The Chief Medical Informatics Officer is responsible for leading the implementation of electronic medication-administration checking at the point of care. Provides leadership for clinical informatics processes and integration of those processes with clinical information technology strategies within AHS. Leads the clinical perspective to informatics projects or systems that impact patient care or clinical practice either directly or indirectly. The position is responsible for developing and driving successful clinical transformation engagements, particularly through engaging clinical leadership in the implementation of the clinical systems, processes and standards. Performs related duties as required.


DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE:The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification, however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.


1. CHANGE MANAGEMENT: Educate clinicians and patients across the enterprise about plans for the new information systems and relevant Informatics issues (e.g. data security). This will be done through newsletter articles and meetings. Demonstrate the benefits of the new systems to clinicians. Identify other applications that may help


physicians assimilate information technology into their daily practice (e.g., On-line Medical Textbooks, Medline Literature Searches, Email, remote access, etc.).


2. CONSULTANCY: Consult on the development of Clinical Information Systems including the selection process, implementation process, continuous improvement in function, education of physician users, liasion with nursing, future directions, development of clinical cost-effectiveness reports, communicating results with medical staff, and providing guidance and direction to the quality assurance and utilization review committees on measurement standards.


3. LEADERSHIP: Membership in the Information Systems Steering Committee. Coordinates with Information Systems to insure infrastructure supports clinical informatics activities of the medical staff.


4. LIASION/ADVOCATE: Helps to identify the clinical data requirements of the Directors, Departments, Committees, clinicians, and patients across AHS. Helps advocate for and coordinate the advancement of clinical information systems to satisfy these information requirements. Works with representatives from committees and others to create and maintain a common vocabulary for the enterprise. Applies information technology to Medical Education in order to assist the Residency Programs and clinicians. Advocates for patients' needs and rights pertaining to the AHS clinical information systems, including issues of confidentiality of medical information.


5. MANAGEMENT: Participate in Information Systems Projects with potential impact on clinical practice or patient care. Report on status of clinical informatics projects and systems to Information Systems Clinical Steering Committee. Develop clinical informatics work teams.


6. RESEARCH: Conduct and provide research and analysis for the continued evolution of clinical informatics at AHS.


7. VISION: Defines and continually refines the clinical informatics vision for AHS. Recommends strategies to achieve goals consistent with the mission of the AHS for clinical informatics and the electronic patient health record. Optimizes the value of clinical knowledge to the strategic benefit of the Enterprise.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education:M.D./D.O. degree required. Master's degree (MBA) and/or certification in related fields preferred. Minimum Experience:Appropriate Professional Memberships in a Medical professional organization(ACP. AMA...) and an Informatics professional organization(AMIA). Minimum Experience:Minimum of five years clinical background as practicing clinician or clinical leader, preferably with healthcare management experience. Experience with automated workflow redesign and process improvement associated with clinical system implementation required; Siemens/SMS experience is strongly preferred. Required Licenses/Certifications:Valid license to practice medicine in the state of California.
