    As the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) / Medical Director, you will serve as the senior physician executive for our inpatient psychiatric hospital. This role combines executive medical leadership, physician oversight, quality management, regulatory compliance, and direct patient care responsibilities.
     
    The CMO will partner closely with hospital administration and medical staff to establish a culture of clinical excellence, patient safety, accountability, and compassionate care. This is a unique opportunity to build and lead a high-performing psychiatric treatment team while helping launch a state-of-the-art behavioral health facility dedicated to serving individuals experiencing acute mental health crises.

    Position Summary

    The Chief Medical Officer serves as the Facility's Chief Medical Administrative Officer and is responsible for providing medical leadership, physician oversight, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and direct clinical services. The CMO will work collaboratively with hospital leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based psychiatric care while maintaining compliance with all accreditation, licensing, and regulatory standards.

    Key Leadership Responsibilities

    Medical Staff Leadership & Administration

    • Serve as the Chief Medical Administrative Officer for the facility.
    • Provide medical administrative direction and leadership to all clinical services.
    • Act as the primary liaison between hospital administration and the medical staff.
    • Collaborate with executive leadership to implement organizational goals, strategic initiatives, and Board directives.
    • Ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, policies, and professional standards.
    • Lead medical staff meetings and facilitate physician engagement initiatives.
    • Provide oversight of credentialing, privileging, peer review, and provider performance management.

    Clinical Oversight & Quality Management

    • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered, trauma-informed psychiatric care.
    • Review professional practices throughout the facility and implement corrective actions when necessary.
    • Provide medical supervision and oversight of treatment modalities utilized within the hospital.
    • Maintain and promote best practices in psychiatric assessment, medication management, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and inpatient stabilization.
    • Lead multidisciplinary treatment team collaboration and clinical decision-making.
    • Monitor patient outcomes and support continuous clinical improvement initiatives.

    Regulatory & Accreditation Compliance

    • Provide leadership in maintaining standards established by:
      • The Joint Commission
      • Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
      • State licensing agencies
      • Applicable behavioral health regulatory bodies
    • Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance and Utilization Review programs.
    • Partner with hospital leadership to prepare for surveys, audits, and accreditation reviews.
    • Promote documentation integrity and adherence to regulatory requirements.

    Program Development & Strategic Leadership

    • Assist in developing clinical programs and services that meet community needs.
    • Establish policies, procedures, and clinical protocols that support exceptional patient care.
    • Develop and support continuing education and physician/provider training initiatives.
    • Lead quality committees, medical executive committees, utilization review processes, and performance improvement activities.
    • Provide recommendations for staffing, service enhancements, and operational improvements.

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Work closely with the Hospital CEO/Administrator and leadership team to ensure efficient facility operations.
    • Provide timely reports, recommendations, and performance updates.
    • Communicate all pertinent clinical and operational issues affecting patient care and medical staff operations.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration across medical, nursing, therapy, and operational departments.

    Direct Patient Care Responsibilities

    In addition to administrative leadership duties, the CMO will maintain an active clinical role, including:
    • Psychiatric evaluations and admissions.
    • Ongoing patient assessments and follow-up appointments.
    • Medication management and treatment planning.
    • Participation in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
    • Discharge planning and continuity-of-care oversight.
    • Supervision of psychiatric nurse practitioners and advanced practice providers.
    • Review, co-signature, and clinical oversight of nurse practitioner documentation as required.
    • Management of a designated inpatient caseload.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
    • Board Certified in Psychiatry.
    • Active Ohio medical license (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
    • Active DEA registration.
    • Minimum five (5) years of psychiatric clinical experience.
    • Minimum three (3) years of physician leadership, medical director, or executive clinical leadership experience.
    • Strong knowledge of inpatient psychiatric operations, CMS regulations, and accreditation standards.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience in quality improvement, utilization management, and medical staff oversight.
