The Chief Medical Officer has primary responsibility for the quality of care across PMDH and will ensure the improvement of clinical outcomes by leading quality improvement initiatives and leveraging best practices. As CMO, you will provide direction and oversight to the following functions: quality, patient safety, regulatory, infection control and medical affairs and will oversee physician supervision in coordination with physician leaders. Additionally, you will design and implement physician engagement and satisfaction initiatives and provide leadership to service line leaders, partnering with them to achieve PMDH’s strategic goals. You will also be responsible for supporting graduate medical education, continuing medical education and physician alignment efforts, as well as serving as DIO for the Residency Program.
Accountabilities include:
Serves as a member of the senior executive team of PMDH, developing and executing on organizational strategies. Provides clinical and administrative expertise and medical staff perspective to the senior executive team. Provides consistent leadership and acts as an informed decision maker, capitalizing on opportunities and taking the initiative in the furtherance of the medical center’s mission and vision.
Provides oversight and support in planning and setting objectives for Doylestown Health’s quality initiatives, patient safety program, infection control, accreditation and regulatory compliance.
Collaborates in the development of clinical effectiveness targets, improvement plans and reporting systems to ensure the delivery of high quality, effective and efficient patient care.
In collaboration with executive management team, develop and implement a physician alignment plan that will achieve the mission and vision of PMDH.
Participates in the review and selection process of physicians.
Participates in performance management and discipline process for physicians. Resolves conflicts, disagreements and complaints in a constructive manner. Investigates and responds appropriately to all complaints and recommends corrective action if necessary.
Works closely with the clinical leadership (CNO & COO) of the executive team to foster an environment of cooperation, collegiality, trust and respect with nursing and other clinical departments to achieve excellence in all measures of clinical outcomes, quality of service, caring and compassion, and efficient use of resources to optimize patient, family, physician and employee satisfaction.
Monitors the medical staff and hospital compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, the rules of regulatory and accrediting bodies. Makes recommendations to amend the Medical Staff Bylaws as needed.
Formulates responses to citation, deficiency, stipulation or enforcement action issued by any agency pertaining to the quality of care rendered by the medical staff and takes appropriate action regarding reports of unusual occurrences or incidents involving patients, families and medical staff (to include residents, interns and medical students).
Reviews and approves operating budget as submitted by department directors. Monitors actual budget performance and implements new strategies/systems when required/indicated.
Maintains awareness of relevant changes in federal and state statuses and regulations and communicates those to clinical teams.
Represents Doylestown Health at the Penn Medicine system level by participating in committees, such as the CMO/CNO alliance.
Assists legal and risk management departments in resolving medical/legal issues and develops and implements risk reduction strategies.
Establishes annual department goals and objectives to align and support Doylestown Health’s Strategic Plan.
Empowers, motivates and mentors team members. Is sensitive to individual employee differences and creates space and opportunity for diversity of thought and perspectives.
Establishes performance expectations of the departments, assesses leader and employee performance, gives feedback and conducts timely performance appraisals.
Promotes positive team interactions and fosters communication and coordination among individuals, department/units and appropriate management team members.
Ensures that all mandatory requirements are regularly communicated to the medical staff and employees to ensure compliance.
Qualifications:
· Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and 10+ years of experience
· 5+ years of healthcare leadership experience
· Board certified in relevant specialty
COMMUNICATION: Demonstrated consultative, team building, and group facilitative skills
CLINICAL: Knowledge of healthcare operations
OPERATIONS: Comprehensive understanding of hospital operations
REGULATORY: Understanding of regulatory compliance
REGULATORY: Understanding of the Joint Commission and Department of Health process and standards
PROJECT/CHANGE MANAGEMENT: Ability to manage concurrent projects while meeting project deadlines
FINANCE: Strong financial/business acumen
