Responsible for professional oversight and support of clinical quality, patient safety, infection prevention, as well as the accreditation and regulatory efforts at St. John medical center. Leads with intention to achieve PeaceHealth's collective success through enhancing integration and standardization throughout the care continuum as One PeaceHealth.

Provides leadership and partnership that fosters an environment of quality and safety within PeaceHealth's clinical delivery framework. Acts as the physician champion in a clinical excellence dyad model, monitoring processes that support high standards of quality, create a safe culture, improve patient outcomes, and patient experience. Includes the implementation of clinical improvement initiatives, the adoption of new clinical technologies, ensuring appropriate use of the data and analytic systems that enhance clinical outcomes, and evaluating their impact on providers' practices and patient satisfaction. Promotes a collaborative relationship with the provider community between PeaceHealth employed and the independent practice clinicians on staff at the medical center. Responsible for leading and communicating PeaceHealth's clinical strategies with providers.

Responsible to ensure compliance with federal and state regulatory bodies. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) have the authority and responsibility to oversee patient care services provided on their hospital and to ensure adherence to quality and regulatory requirements in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The CMO St. John must ensure that quality and performance improvement activities meet their target conditions. The CMO St. John is responsible to adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards for their areas and to be continuously ready for any survey on those regulations or standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads with intention to achieve PeaceHealth's collective success through enhancing integration and standardization throughout the care continuum as One PeaceHealth.
  • Provides overall physician leadership and strategic clinical direction in the hospital to support high clinical quality, a strong culture of patient safety, regulatory compliance, and transformative care models. Engages community clinical and administrative leadership to create exceptional clinical/patient outcomes.
  • Fosters effective working relationships among providers and facilitates resolution of disagreements and problems. Conducts team meetings with providers and hospital personnel. Implements other communication venues as necessary to align physicians with PeaceHealth clinical strategies.
  • In partnership with Patient Safety leaders, creates and executes a patient safety plan demonstrating a culture of safety and a safe environment of care for patients, caregivers and providers, with a focus on preventing all repeat serious safety events and promoting a zero-harm medical center.
  • Provides physician leadership to clinicians in leadership roles to ensures cost-efficient use of resources and appropriate utilization. Provides leadership to the Utilization Management committee and works collaboratively with the Utilization Medical Director. Ensures physician participation in Utilization Management and Clinical Documentation Improvement strategies.
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, ensures compliance with all accreditation and regulatory requirements. Coordinates regulatory survey preparation and corrective actions to ensure the medical center meets on-going regulatory requirements at County, State, and Federal levels.
  • Ensures long-term financial and operational sustainability by establishing goals and initiatives focused on reducing overall costs of care by implementing cost-effective clinical pathways and reducing unnecessary and low value clinical care.
  • Engages in advocacy and public policy activities to foster sustainable patient-centered care.
  • Collaborates with executives to design and support PeaceHealth's physician structures by hospital and community.
  • Leads, develops, and facilitates implementation of quality monitoring programs across PeaceHealth networks, affiliations, and partnerships, community-based programs and universities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Accredited School of Medicine: Graduation from an accredited medical school and completed an accredited residency program in a medical or clinical specialty.
  • Master's Degree: Completion of a MBA, MHA, or secondary college education in a business or health administration field. (Preferred)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of high-level healthcare leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior clinical practice experience.
  • Experience leading/partnering in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Up to date knowledge of changes in healthcare, emerging clinical methodologies, and standards.
  • Experience with redesign or process work which includes community or medical group wide implementation.

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS

  • Upon Hire: Licensure as a physician in a State of Washington

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Excellent verbal, negotiation, and written communication skills, particularly with key stakeholder groups such as physicians, other clinicians, and quality improvement staff.
  • Skilled in engaging providers to emphasize the PeaceHealth experience.
  • Strong facilitation and change leadership skills.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Skill in maintaining operational metrics.

The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $163.34 - $207.38. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
