    Job Summary:

    The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides clinical oversight and strategic direction for medical care across the hospital and health system. Reporting to the CEO and working collaboratively with the Chief Nursing Officer, the CMO provides leadership over medical staff, quality and patient safety, clinical operations, provider performance, credentialing, and population health initiatives. The CMO promotes patient-centered, culturally competent care while supporting the organization's mission, strategic goals, and commitment to improving health outcomes within the community.

    Responsibilities:

    Provide clinical oversight and direction for medical services throughout the hospital and health system

    Oversee the quality, safety, and patient experience of care across clinical settings

    Provide leadership and supervision to Medical Staff leadership across acute and ambulatory care

    Ensure care is delivered in a culturally competent manner consistent with the needs and values of the Native American communities served

    Serve as a collaborative member of the executive leadership team and participate in strategic planning and organizational goal development

    Serve as a clinical spokesperson for WCHS in collaboration with executive leadership and communications teams

    Lead and oversee the Medical Executive Committee and Medical Staff Office functions as assigned by the CEO and medical staff bylaws

    Oversee credentialing, re-credentialing, peer review, quality management, and medical staff discipline

    Participate in organizational committees including Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Quality Management, Utilization Review, and other committees as assigned

    Ensure compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, accreditation standards, and applicable healthcare regulations

    Lead medical staff recruitment efforts and support the effective management of external medical staffing contracts

    Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of care

    Establish and improve medical staff performance standards related to clinical knowledge, communication, professionalism, and system-based practice

    Oversee Medical Directors responsible for acute, ambulatory, and behavioral health services

    Provide leadership and oversight for medical education, including medical students, residents, residency development, and other health professions

    Oversee clinical telehealth programs designed to expand access and improve patient care

    Support the continued maintenance of Nebraska State Trauma Tier IV designation

    Ensure medical staff and departments under the CMO's supervision follow organizational policies and procedures

    Support Medical Directors in ensuring providers complete accurate and timely medical documentation

    Collaborate with Purchased Referred Care and case management teams to review and manage consultant referrals

    Provide direct clinical services as agreed upon

    Participate in morning rounds and huddles and support timely emergency department transfers and hospital admissions

    Develop and maintain external relationships to expand coordinated and integrated specialty care services

    Support initiatives that improve population health through clinical care, research, and community partnerships

    Provide leadership across additional clinical services as the WCHS system evolves, including behavioral health, substance use services, optometry, dentistry, elder care, EMS, and integrated patient care

    Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    MD or DO degree from an accredited institution

    Valid, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory

    Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification

    Completion of an approved medical residency program

    Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Psychiatry consistent with medical staff bylaws

    Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a licensed physician

    Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory and leadership experience in hospital and ambulatory healthcare settings

    Public health leadership experience preferred

    Experience working with Native American communities preferred

    Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and a "Patient First" approach
