Our client, a respected and expanding multispecialty physician group with a reputation for patient-centered care and clinical excellence, is hiring a Chief Operating Officer (COO). The COO will serve as a strategic and operational leader for a large, multi-site healthcare organization comprising over 550 employees, approximately 100 providers, and annual net revenue of around $110 million. The role demands a seasoned executive capable of establishing operational infrastructure, driving performance improvement, and supporting the organization’s planned growth of 30 additional physicians within the next 2–5 years. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key cross-functional leader, the COO will foster alignment across clinical, administrative, and executive teams to enhance operational efficiency, standardize processes, and enable scalable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide enterprise operational leadership across approximately 30 service suites and multiple locations, developing and executing strategies aligned with organizational growth goals.
  • Establish and monitor measurable KPIs, dashboards, and accountability frameworks to ensure operational excellence.
  • Oversee practice operations including scheduling, patient access, and clinical support, ensuring streamlined workflows and improved patient experience.
  • Collaborate with CFO to manage annual budgets, track financial performance, and identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement.
  • Lead organizational development by mentoring operational leaders, fostering a culture of accountability, and strengthening physician engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and support initiatives to improve clinical quality, patient safety, and satisfaction.
  • Drive the coordination of value-based care programs, payer contracting, and population health initiatives to support value-driven payment models.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders in IT, HR, revenue cycle, facilities, and clinical leadership to support enterprise transformation and change management initiatives.
  • Build scalable systems and operational processes to support growth targets, including onboarding new practices and optimizing revenue cycle management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive healthcare leadership experience with a focus on multi-site physician practices or ambulatory care.
  • Minimum of 5+ years in senior operational roles within physician-led healthcare organizations, preferably multispecialty groups or private practices.
  • Demonstrated success in building operational infrastructure, KPIs, dashboards, and accountability systems in dynamic, evolving healthcare environments.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence physicians, clinical staff, and executive teams while managing competing priorities.
  • High emotional intelligence and relationship management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, healthcare analytics, and experience with EMR systems such as Athenahealth or similar platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MPH) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with value-based care and population health models is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel regionally to oversee multiple sites as needed.

Some of the Benefits

  • Competitive base salary range of $285,000 – $325,000, with flexibility for top talent up to $400,000 depending on experience.
  • Performance-based incentives, with targets still in development.
  • Comprehensive executive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and leadership development opportunities.
  • Opportunity to shape and lead a growing organization at a pivotal moment in its strategic evolution.
