Chief Product Owner – Affinity

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from Chicago, IL or Minneapolis, MN (preferred) or any US Aon office.

Aon is in the business of better decisions

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.

As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

The Chief Product Owner (CPO) for Affinity North America is accountable for defining, scaling, and executing a cohesive product strategy across a complex portfolio of MGA, MGU, program, and direct‑to‑consumer insurance businesses. This role sits at the intersection of business strategy, digital capability, underwriting models, and distribution experience, with a mandate to transform this portfolio into a digitally enabled, scalable growth engine.

The CPO will own the end‑to‑end product lifecycle across Affinity US—spanning product design, pricing, underwriting workflows, digital distribution, broker and customer experience, and ongoing optimization—while working in close partnership with Technology, Operations, Risk Capital, and Business Leadership.

Product Strategy & Portfolio Leadership

  • Define and own the Affinity US product strategy, aligned with AOP 2027–2029 objectives.
  • Rationalize and manage a portfolio of dozens of insurance products across multiple MGAs, MGUs, and program structures.
  • Establish clear product segmentation across:
    • Direct‑to‑consumer
    • Broker‑distributed
    • Sub‑producer and wholesale‑adjacent channels
  • Determine which products should be:
    • Digitized and scaled
    • Standardized
    • Sunset or restructured

Digital Product & Distribution Enablement

  • Lead the shift from spreadsheet‑driven processes to modern digital product experiences.
  • Own product requirements for:
    • Digital submission, quote, bind, and service journeys
    • Broker and sub‑producer portals
    • Direct digital distribution where applicable
  • Partner with Technology on platform decisions (e.g., Epic usage) while owning the product experience layered on top.
  • Ensure product design supports:
    • Straight‑through processing (STP)
    • Automation and scalability
    • Future AI‑assisted workflows

MGA / MGU & Program Complexity Management

  • Design product models that respect the unique economics and structures of MGAs and MGUs, including:
    • Underwriting authority
    • Carrier service obligations
    • Distribution and commission structures
  • Ensure clear separation—and intentional integration—between:
    • Underwriting services
    • Distribution activities
    • Claims participation where applicable
  • Create product frameworks that can be consistently applied across ~15 legal entities without forcing false uniformity.

Growth, Investment & Prioritization

  • Partner with senior leadership on investment prioritization, especially in constrained funding environments (e.g., 2027).
  • Build compelling product‑led growth cases for:
    • Digital enablement
    • Broker experience improvements
    • Marketing and demand generation capabilities
  • Balance near‑term revenue growth with longer‑term platform and capability investments.

Governance, Risk & Regulatory Alignment

  • Ensure all products meet regulatory, contractual, and carrier requirements, particularly as digital models replace legacy processes.
  • Partner with Risk Capital and Legal on product governance, approvals, and compliance.
  • Establish consistent product governance and decision frameworks across Affinity US.

Leadership & Organization

  • Build and lead a high‑caliber product organization spanning product management, product operations, and product analytics.
  • Act as the single point of accountability for product decisions across Affinity US.
  • Serve as a strong peer to Technology, Operations, and Business Leaders—collaborative, but decisive.

How this opportunity is different

The Chief Product Owner is the role that turns strategy and investment into real outcomes—bridging the gap between ambition and execution.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Fifteen plus years of experience in insurance, MGA, or specialty distribution businesses, with deep exposure to product leadership.
  • Proven success leading complex, multi‑product portfolios at scale.
  • Direct experience with:
    • MGA / MGU or program business models
    • High‑volume transactional insurance products
    • Digital distribution and workflow transformation

Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent years of industry experience.
