About the Facility
The Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) is located at One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417. MVAHCS is a leading VA medical center providing comprehensive care to Veterans across Minnesota and the upper Midwest. The Radiation Oncology Service is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body and operates state-of-the-art equipment including Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, RayStation treatment planning, and ARIA record & verify systems.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Chief Physicist overseeing all medical physics and dosimetry aspects of the Radiation Oncology Physics program
- Design, optimize, and technically evaluate radiation treatment plans
- Ensure precise and accurate radiation dose delivery
- Manage radiation protection of patients and staff
- Oversee quality assurance programs including daily, monthly, and annual QA procedures
- Provide expert consultation to Radiation Oncologists and direction to technical staff
- Supervise complicated simulations and treatment setups
- Handle administrative duties including strategic planning and equipment requests
- Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of linear accelerators
- Support accreditation and compliance with ACR, ASTRO, and AAPM standards
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Medical Physics or related field
- Board Certified by ABR, ABMP, or CCPM in Therapeutic Medical Physics
- Minimum 5 years post-board certification experience
- At least 3 years continuous experience within the last 5 years
- 5 years performing QA procedures
- 3 years experience with Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators (TG-142)
- 3 years experience with IGRT including Cone Beam CT
- 3 years experience with RayStation TPS and ARIA R&V (2D/3D Conformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, IMRT/VMAT)
- 3 years IMRT QA experience (MapCheck I/II or equivalent)
- 3 years CT Simulator experience (TG-66)
- Experience with superficial X-ray machines
- Acceptance testing and commissioning experience
Schedule
- Full-time, Monday – Friday
- Regular hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Some after-hours work for calibrations and measurements
- Must be on-site during clinical hours at least 50% of the time
- Federal holidays off
